Going Eco-Glamorous

Like Slow Food, Slow Fashion is concerned with origin, source, and process. And not all earth-friendly clothes are beige. Designers and the stylishly-inclined are changing the way we consume our clothes. Check out Green With Glamour that is reaching eco-chic shoppers worldwide, showcasing both stylish and eco-friendly clothing, accessories and items for the home. Moreover, Green with Glamour has always operated via a certified carbon neutral webhost. They strive to be paperless as can be and ship our orders in re-used packaging whenever possible (which is almost always).

High-end designers are taking fashion down the same path. The new trend is buying quality—even if that means a significant increase in price—and having pieces you can be proud of, pieces that could even become hand-me-downs.  Famed photographer Steven Meisel looks the recession in the face with three covers for Vogue Italia’s September issue. The message of the covers is that when you don’t have money to buy new clothes, look around you, use your old things and get creative.

How about earth friendly Pure sofa collection by Amy McKay (below): the seat padding is natural latex, which is tapped from rubber trees, and emits no toxic gases. It is covered in organic wool upholstery, has natural jute webbing instead of petroleum based nylon. The legs are from locally harvested alder, glued together with water-based non-toxic glue and finished with natural linseed oil.
