Extravagance in the name of charity

As the luxury sector struggles to make gains (like everyone else), marketers are trying to put a positive spin on an unpopular topic – luxury. Quiet elegance is the mandate of the day and it’s a jungle out there trying to figure out how to market luxury tastefully. And who can argue when luxury is tied to a charitable cause?

 

Sexy shoe designer Christian Louboutin has dabbled with hotel partnerships before, making a line of espadrilles for One & Only Resorts. He’s back at it again, by creating an extremely limited-edition stiletto sandal – The “Rodita” – a fashionista favorite of Christian’s Spring 2008 line. It has returned in hot pink, specifically for the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Thailand, with all proceeds going to the GTAEF charity (Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation). Yes that’s right: sales from the $895 shoes are going to save elephants from the streets in Thailand, but there’s only 50 available for purchase on FootCandyShoes.com.
