More creative, fashionable QR codes

As reported by the New York Times, QR codes were all the rage during New York’s Fashion Week earlier this month. When scanned, QR codes can connect consumers to everything from webpages (company or personal), online contests, games and cocktail recipes, to personal social media pages and geographic coordinates. Even how-to videos: there’s a Macy’s QR code campaign that points consumers to a smoky-eye makeup lesson by Bobbi Brown, which has been an unexpected hit.

So we’re seeing that QR Code aren’t just for techies anymore…they’re downright fashionable. And retailers and brands are getting clever in sharing QR codes: They were on cookies doled out by Tiffany that, when scanned, revealed an invitation to a concert with Leighton Meester. They were on a pink Barbie-themed bus, and on doll displays in stores that could be scanned for a chance to win designer clothes. And they were on postcards for a “fashion hunt” with the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District and the blog Madison Avenue Spy.
